The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week

This week has been slow. Four out of five children have been sick. I have managed to keep up with workouts, dinner, and school, that's about it. I am excited for Saturday! Nana is coming over to watch the kids so my husband and I can get a very much needed date night!

In our homeschool this week

School is coming along. I am very excited that I switched my daughter's Science to Exploring Creation with General Science. I love it! We have done two experiments about atoms that were incredibly easy. (I like easy experiments)

Places we are going & people we are seeing

As I mentioned above my husband and I have a dinner date on Sat. Yay! On Sunday we will be attending the Cub Scout Pine wood Derby Race. My son is very excited and so are we!

My favorite thing this week

My favorite thing this week has got to be that all the sick little ones I have are starting to look and feel better!

What's working/Not working for us

I think I will be getting rid of most of the curriculum we are using now. The Science we are using that I mentioned above, is great! We will stay with Saxon Math and the religion we are using, but I think we will say good-bye to everything else. Our reading program, Alpha-Phonics is working quite well with my first grader. I'm happy I gave it a try.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have

I have been researching the Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling and I think that is the direction we are going to go for next year. I ordered a few of her books to read. Right now our homeschool is school at home, very dry. I think CM may be a good fit for us.

Hi!!! I am visiting from The Homeschool Chick and am also venturing into Charlotte Mason land!! I too feel like her methods will be a good fit for our family because like you said, our day is dry. That is such a perfect word for it. I have been checking out her books from the library like a crazy person and love The Charlotte Mason Companion if you haven't already found that. Also, Ambleside Online is a great CM reference site!! I look forward to keeping in touch through this awesome link up!! Have fun tomorrow night!!

Hip, hip, hooray for date night!!! I hope that you have a wonderful time!

I've used Apologia Science for two years now, and just love it to pieces. I'm so glad to hear that you like it too.

The pic of your kiddos in the snow is so fun.

Thank you so much for joining me on the journey today. I hope everyone in your house feels better very soon.

Blessings,
Sue :)

A date night is ALWAYS welcomed! Our family is overcoming the messiness of colds (me included).

I know what you mean about dry curriculum. This whole journey is a try, fail/succeed, and adjust.

I'm visiting from The Homeschool Chick. It's nice to meet ya!
