Taming The Beast I Like to Call Carbohydrates

When someone tells me a serving of pasta is ½ a cup I start to laugh hysterically. A serving of pasta for me is a Jethro size bowl filled to the top. Bad, I know. And who can have only one peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Not me.

I only need to lose about 15 pounds to be comfortable and to be able to fit into all my too tight clothing.

I have decided I am going to do Atkins for a few weeks. This is not a diet I can stick to in the long run, so why even do it you ask? It disciplines me from my excessive carb and sugar intake.

Basically what I eat is meat, vegetables, and the Atkins ever so popular food, eggs. No sugar, no carbs. For someone like me who needs to fast from these two “food groups” it works well.

My plan is to lose the excess weight, exercise, and then maintain a healthy weight on a normal balanced diet. It is all about discipline, something I need work on.

On to more important matters, my cousin’s three-year-old daughter is in Children’s Hospital today. The doctors will be removing what they think is a cyst on her ovary. Please pray for this little one and her family.

i really need to do the low-carb thing with you (about 15 pounds is my goal, too). i've been thinking about it and talking about it for weeks (months?) now, but haven't done it yet. this weekend is a family reunion, and my mom will be making all kinds of yummies, so maybe, just maybe, i'll jump on board on monday. i have at least started taking leisurely 45 minute walks around the neighborhood in the mornings--not exactly pilates, but better than nothing. weight training and low-carb--that's definitely the way to go!

and my prayers (such as they are) are with your cousin's little one--how frightening!

Thank you for your prayers Amy. If I were you I would start Monday. A family reunion is way to tempting. There is to much good food at those types of things

To be honest fad diets do more harm than good. It is better to simply cut in half your food portions...Carbs give you energy, but simply eat a little bit less of them than normal.

Good luck girls;).

Peace and joy to you:)

I remember the good old days when I could simply eat locarb and lose weight. You have your youth on your side! I ended up eating locarb for over a decade and it certainly didn't kill me, but the weight loss didn't last. Getting older was my undoing , I guess. (But it beats the alternative, right?)
I'll be sure not to offer you any carby goodies when I see you. If I whip out the hardboiled eggs consider it a sign of my support! :)
